Mahavaakyas such as Tat vam asi, Aham Brahmasmi, and the way of Neti, Neti. The way of “Not this, not this”. And the way of “Even this, even this” blend in these dialogues and statements.
Note: The great maxims contained in four Upanishads of the four Vedas describe Brahman as:
- Praajnam Brahman—Aitreya Upanishad of Rigveda, meaning “Intelligence or Consciousness is Brahman”.
- Aham Brahmaasmi—Brihadaaranyaka Upanishad of Yajurveda, meaning “I am Brahman”.
- Tat vam asi—Chandogya Upanishad of Saamaveda, meaning “That thou art”.
- Ayam aatma Brahman—Mandookya Upanishad of Atharvaveda, meaning “This Self or aatma is Brahman”.

These great Mahavaakyas is what we have to strive to realise in this life - and hopefully this can be realised with His grace and blessings in this lifetime itself.
Its not just having the knowledge or understanding but above all, its to realise this knowledge which is the task that lies before us. This Science of Reality or Knowledge of Truth is Brahma-Vidya or Vedanta-Vidya. It is said the experience of Brahman occurs when the mind is fully merged in the contemplation of Brahman and all the other thoughts have been totally eliminated.
Thus, this quest to realise this Truth (Satyam) can be done in the sacred sanctum of one's own heart/person (Hridayam) -- one just needs to look within.
