The Dirty Picture is a very, very fine picture. Take a bow, Vidya Balan.

For the sake of discussion and to pick your mind, share with me your views on watching movies. Besides for enjoyment, pleasure, perhaps to be in the company with someone, for relaxation, to unwind, to pass time, to reflect ...all this and .....what else is there in watching movies which is in the end just a story or someone else's story being acted out again.
Agree sometimes that u can get ideas, answers or even something to ponder upon from there - depending on the movie of course. Sometimes its just for pure pleasure.
Nevertheless, does it give you a window, a visual window, to another world? OR Does it help you see yourself and see others acting out roles and situations that help you obtain answers to questions that u are deliberating on? OR Does it help you remain as a witness or do you pull yourself away while you watch so that you can see everything in play including yourself?
What do u see when you look at the screen when the whole world is a stage waiting for you and everyone else to act/play their roles right.
Thanks for posting the longest comment/feedback yet on my blog!
Well, I do watch movies for all the reasons you have mentioned. Apart from that, I watch movies for movies' sake. It is one of the greatest art forms... collaborative effort including writing, directing, photography, lighting, music, choreography/dance, etc., etc.
Plus, you watch different genres (war, romance, thriller, horror, drama, slice-of-life, period/historical, biopic, sports, etc.) for different reasons.
Just like a filmmaker lives many different lifetimes while making films, so does the spectator/audience.
Some movies present answers, some present questions, dilemmas, some profound quests, etc. Some represent real in reel.
Why do people love art, music, dance, poetry? We try to put ourselves out there. We try to become our creation. We try to realize that we are god.
