Words seemingly from nowhere
Staying in the midst of society really does not help. Every relationship comes with expectations and obligations. Blessed are those who form relationships where only dharma (righteousness) is way of life:
• Swami Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and consort, Sarada Devi
• Sant Keshavdas and consort, Mother
Did I choose: Where was I to be born this life? The school I went to? My parents? My teachers?
Why did Brother Keane travel from Ireland to India and stay here so long? He had some ties and chains here. Maybe, some karma unfulfilled.
From where did I travel through all these lifetimes? To where am I travelling?
Am feeling an ache in my Heart for a long time now. Nothing makes me sad; nothing makes me happy either. Am in such a neutral state that if somebody bombed the earth, I may care two hoots before dying myself.
These words, they just flow. Seemingly coming from nowhere. Because I am not thinking these words or making up this stuff.
I am losing my memory, one remembrance at a time. Discarding all the rubbish in my mind makes my mind and Heart lighter. Maybe, this is what the Masters called as losing oneself. Because losing memory is losing what you are, what you mean to people.
What do you own? What can you possess?
How can I transcend sex, meditation, and all methods?
Oh Ramana, wherever you are, help me out. Push me a bit. Toss me around.
Some words you have to live to know what they really mean. Like, I am yearning now.
Somewhere at the horizon, words stop and silence begins.
In the great abyss of life, sorrows
have deeper burrows.
In this dark forest, a fine
next step may land on a landmine.
Why do you always feel like talking to somebody who’s left you with no one to talk to?
Okay, that is greeting card language.

Falsehood
When, not how, shall I attain sattva?
Is there a ‘when’ while I oscillate between the two?
Is the midpoint of my oscillation sattva?
Rajas and tamas obstruct sadhana.
How do I obstruct the obstructions?
How can I attain That?
When I say ‘I’ and ‘That’ together, my statement becomes falsehood.

Office conversation (pretty close but not verbatim)
C’s Friend (holding C’s spectacles in hand and examining them): “Hey, what’s the power in these? Must be between -1 and -2.”
C: “Yeah, -1.25 hain.”
C’s Friend: “Ok. Why don’t you go in for laser vision correction. I had -8 power; I underwent the treatment back in ’97. It’s safe and it’s worth it. The treatment gives you freedom. No more lenses and specs…”
C: “I am OK with specs. Some people have issues maintaining specs and looking good and all. I have no issues.”
C’s Friend: “I underwent the treatment because that time I had been caught by the navy bug. I wanted to become a sailor. I had taken the written exams and physical test at INS Hamla; cleared both rounds and was awaiting medical test dates. So I had to get the correction done prior to the medical test.
My vision correction was a gift from my grandfather. He was a navyman, naa. It was his last everlasting gift for me.
He passed away in ’98.”
By the time I underwent the laser correction, I had to choose between literature and travelling. I had to choose: become a sailor or become a poet… And I chose the latter.”
C (nonchalantly turning to A, who’s been busy at her work all through this conversation): “Hey, chalna breakfast ke liye. Mujhe bahut bhook lagi hain!”

Common dialogues in Malayalam Movies
- Nഅമ്മള്ക്ക് ഒന്ന് കുടണ്ടേ!?
Meaning: “Don’t we need to get-together?”
The context: Any situation can be an excuse for drinking: Marriage, tragic events, death of somebody close to the protagonist, the female lead leaving the hero for somebody else, etc. Reel life copies real life for sure in Malayalam. Thereafter, begins the great drinking sessions of നാട് ചാരായം or English rum, seeing which may make many of the uninitiated viewers puke!
- Hmm… നിന്നോടെആനു അഗറ്റ് പൂവാന് പരെന്യെദ്ധ.
Meaning: “It is you whom I told to go inside.”
Context: Chauvinist husband telling wife to go inside when he is discussing ‘important’ matters with any of the following: Relative(s), Friend(s), Villain(s), നാടുകാര്, ഓര് Drinking companions/ ശിങ്ങടിമാര്സ്
90 per cent of the time, the wifey will weep/sob, and obey the husband quietly. If only real copied reel?! Hehehehe!
Note: But in movies centered on women’s lib or where the wife is portrayed as ‘modern’, she will back answer him! How dare she? In this case, this scene may be followed by arguments and debates. She may even walk out of the house with two lightweight, well packed, clean suitcases!
- സഹായിചിലെങ്ങിലും ഒബുദ്രോഹികെരട്ദ്…
Meaning: If you cannot/will not help, please do not harass.
Context: Poor innocent man pleading with മോടലാളി /policeman. Famous example, Mohanlal to Shammi Thilakan in ഛെന്കൊഇല് (sequel to കിരീടം).
- ഏഎ കാല് വേനങ്ങില് ഞാന് പിടിക്യാമ?!
Meaning: I will fall at your feet, if needed.
Context: Bride’s father pleading with the groom’s father for failing to fulfill marriage terms and conditions. Or a person pleading with his debtors.
- നിങ്ങള് എല്ലാവരും സുഖം ആയിത് ഇര്രികണം. അധ മദി ഇന്നികെ. ട്രുപ്ടി ആയി.
Meaning: You all should be happy. That is all I desire. Am contented.
Context: Elder brother/father/mother telling the insensitive, ‘modern’ outlook city returned/ educated brother/son when the son does not value family values, traditions, togetherness, and other such boring & mundane stuff.
Strangeness in Pune
Go ahead and adopt a stray, seemed to be his message to the world and the nonchalant passengers seated in the bus.
Yesterday morning, it drizzled and then rained in Pune. The cool morning outside, with the smell of wet earth, infiltrated and blended with the warm glow of the lighted brass lamp inside. I felt something unexplainable and out of this world.
I finished reading A Luminous Rebel… a short biography on Osho. Am halfway through Paul Brunton’s A Search in Secret India.
Aur inn sab ke beech main... bomb blast in German Bakery.

100
It took me five years (February 15, 2005: first post) to come up with 100 tidbits and slices from my life. Each post acted as a catalyst; each post put forth new questions and answers; each post killed some part of me; each post gave birth to a new me.
At this moment of my death and birth, I thank all my readers, who followed my posts through all these years: K, G, R, M, L, A, Eroteme, H, A, S, and all the Anonymous ones out there.
This blog would not have grown without you: my readers.
Thanks for all your valuable comments and feedback.
Thanks for your gentle persuasion... egging me to go on even when nothing came through.
Thanks for your patience and support.
Om Namah Shivaya! May He bless me to write more posts.
Dil toh baccha hain ji
The song from the movie, Ishqiya, is one of the best picturized songs that I have ever seen in Indian cinema. You just need to watch Naseeruddin Shah (just in this song) to know how subtle acting can be... Nostalgia, introspection, honesty: the song interweaves all these elements and more effortlessly.
Gulzar has pulled out yet another rabbit from his hat...
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's voice brings out Khalujaan's hidden pathos and hope alive...
Vishal Bharadwaj's score is perfect.
Vidya Balan, as Krishna, can take the baton, with conviction, from Rekha as the new seductive temptress. The opening scene itself will take your breath away.
If you haven't watched Ishqiya already, then you should. Abhishek Chaubey is a director to watch out for; that is, if Vishal did not ghost direct the movie!. And watch out for this song...
Go, fall in love stupidly. Once more. All over again.

A quantum leap of faith
“You never make any decision in life. Before you decide, the decision is already made. You feel/think you have choices in life when you really don’t.”
Words from the book I just finished: The Human Touch by Michael Frayn.
Free will has really been the most misunderstood concept among laymen, according to maharishis since time immemorial. Quantum physics is talking the same language as theirs:
- Each of us is actually “alone” in time.
- We live in the past. There is no future. You really never know what will happen tomorrow.
- All is one. The seemingly real boundaries of “I” are created by the body/mind complex. You can never point out and say where “I” ends and “Other” begins.
- None of the natural laws exist beyond our mind and thoughts. Things just behave the way they do.
- Time and space do not exist beyond our mind and thoughts. These concepts being purely brought into existence for our convenience and for us to relate to the world. Just like all measurement units.
- Language cannot express many truths. Language and our imagination are limited.
- There are no constants: π, speed of light, etc. All these are subject to change. In other words: relative.
- Physics has reached the realm of “inexpressible” and “unthinkable”. Equations will need to involve variable constants!
I am taking it all in. Standing and wondering at the meeting points between these two seemingly distinct schools of thought: mysticism (for lack of a better word) and Quantum Physics.
And right now, it is fun: Reading, relating, and laughing out loud at fallacies of my mind.

23. My better half is actually much better than I am. J
24. The only place I want to live and the only place I want to die: Thiruvannamalai. Hope at least one of the two come true!
25. I miss only one person in my life.
Somebody up there…
Pune has some connection with me, I guess. This city keeps inviting me. This is my third time in Pune… Life here, as always, has been very eventful.
The only place I certainly miss is Thiruvannamalai. The holy hill, the Virupaksha cave, Skandashramam, and Ramanashramam at the foot of the hill.
I miss Prasad, Raji, Devraj, Tripathiji, and all the other seekers who you end up meeting in a sacred place like that. I forgot to visit the Kannapa Nayanar temple and also to go for giripradakshina on the inner path. Next time for sure… whenever the calling comes. Sandeep, you are certainly more blessed than I am. Make the most of it, like Tripathiji says.
Right now, life is back to dealing with the basics of a worldly life. Bills, loans, rents, provisions, et al.

He had grace
Somewhere, lost in time, is truth. Sometime, lost in time, is a soul.
Between six-o-clock in the evening of January 19 and the morning of January 20, 2009, Ananthakrishnan passed away. Brutally murdered.
As far as I knew him, he was just like us. Human; flawed, bright, cunning, mean, spiritual, drunkard, liar, and more. He was like a guru to me… Then, there were things about him that I never knew about. I, now, will never know about: his past, his nakshatra, his gotram, his relatives, etc. He said, his native place was Srirangam at Thiruchirapalli.
What amazes me more than his own prediction of his death (sometime in 2005, I think, he had first predicted his own death in the year 2009) is the fact that he had the grace to die in Thiruvannamalai, near the foothill of Lord Arunachala. I am sure, if all that the Tripura Rahasya says is true, then, he would have attained awareness.
If we had not gone to Thiruvannalamalai to see his dead body, we would not have been graced by Lord Arunachala… Shiva works in mysterious ways: we met and made awesome friends in Gerry & Gabs and Prasad & Devaraj. Each of them with a story of their own… each of them very colorful and spiritual in their own way. We also met Dwaraknath Reddy, a celebrated spiritual author, and had coffee with him in the morning.
I love Prasad singing and playing the flute… and Devaraj telling us his stories. What a storyteller he is! Gabs’ silence and Gerry conspiracy theories made us think and ponder and laugh… Prasad, staying over at your humble home was a very humbling experience. This was the first time, when we both just did not want to leave Thiruvannamalai.
Then, listening to Gerry and Swamiji, Prasad’s neighbour, debate and discuss for more than three hours was awesome.
Shiva took away one soul and made us meet four instead. That too, in Thiruvannamalai… AK had once said, if you meet and bond with strangers in Thiruvannamalai, you are related to them somewhere, sometime in a previous birth.
I believe in it: Prasad, Devaraj, Gerry, and Gabs. All you wandering souls, we are all related… The way we met and bonded… Man, like Gerry says: “There are no coincidences. We are all same, same but different!”
I know, I shall miss talking to AK about various things under the sun and over the moon in my sad, broken Tamil… My questions, his answers… but I sit back and wonder how Shiva almost always had an interpreter for us!

Such is life...
From Before Sunrise to Before Sunset
A plain old job to a plain new one
From a look to a look-alike
A muse to a new one
From a weed to a withered flower
A spectacular moment to a mundane one
From an uncomfortable silence to unspeakable truths
A mockery to bewilderment
From a classical song to a popular number
A grave to a cradle
From a cliché to a newer one
A ‘before’ to ‘after’…
From being a dad to becoming a father
From seeking to knowing
Such is life… Just like Ani says.

Childhood memories - 3
Ani and I are waiting to be taken to school. I must be in 2nd grade and he in Sr. KG. Ravi mama holds our hands and off we go. Through fields, barren lands lined with huge rocks beside the salt pan… this was a shortcut to St Augustine’ High we took everyday.
On the way, he tells us stories; and shows us ‘mugran’ on the way. ‘Mugran’ is the term he created for shit left behind on the fields by people early in the morning…
In the evening, after he returns from work, he plays with us. Sometimes, whenever mom suffered from her ulcers, he cooks, cleans the overhead tank, and looks after mom!
He was like a brother to her and an awesome uncle to us. Though, he is no more a part of our lives anymore, Ani and I cannot forget him.

Childhood memories - 2
Ranjit and his brother have just got a new tricycle… one with bells and good cushion seats. My brother in the back seat of our sad, old tricycle looks at me with “why don’t we have such a cycle” look?
We ask our mother, and she tells us never to sit on their cycle and never to ask for a new one. Miserable, we watch them pedal happily across the common verandah and ringing the cycle bell only when they reach near our door!
We race every evening on the verandah and most of the times, the new tricycle wins because of its smooth rubber wheels. My brother and I resign to our khatara metal junk.
Then, that very summer vacation, just when we had gotten over the tricycle trauma, their uncle came from the ‘gelf’ with a wonderful, yellow toy helicopter, walking penguins, racing cars, and lots of other goodies…
Among them, my eyes fell on a metallic model toy train. Complete with tracks, signals, tunnels, and railway stations. My first lust...
I don’t know about my brother; I still wait for my rosebud.

Childhood memories - 1
I am not feeling well... and besides, many of you wanted me to write again. So here goes...
This blog may be taking an inward turn here onwards. A journey, which you may want to read at your own risk because in my childhood you may come across yours.
Parts of me died: a child died; parts that may never be reborn. Why did the child inside me die?
Let me go in to some memories that I still have of that glorious period:
It's 5pm on a random evening at Master building, our chawl. The primary roots of the tree of life.
On the wall-less terrace, all my neighbours’ kids and my brother are waiting for Soni chechi to return from school. She has afternoon school; you know, she is in 5th grade!
We did this everyday. Most of the days, she came on time. Some days, she came later than usual.
She is the pack leader and the alpha female! We never play anything till she arrives. It was she who decides which game we play, who tells stories first when there is a power breakdown, who is in which team… and who gets what punishment for cheating… she even decides ‘time please’ for all of us!
We play till the sun set. Some days, while waiting for her, I watch the sun set from my knees to my feet.
When she is late, I cry… few others cry too.
We shifted from Master building when I was in third grade, which means this memory is old. And, I have never met Soni chechi again. I do not think I will recognize her if I ever see her again…
But why do I still remember those evenings:
Some random memories, like random dreams, arrive randomly. But few, like recurring dreams, recur randomly.

Just two words...
This is an e-mail from an ass-ociate VP... Tom, the person mentioned in the mail, is the client. the mail is addressed to me in response to a query doc that i mailed.
Man, this ass has the balls to decide which query is worth the client's time. who is he to decide this?
and the second query in the doc does not ask for screen shots from the client; it asks whether we need to include some content... i guess, people who manage work should only 'manage' work. not try to work and decide things for people who really get the work done.
and the ass' e-mail does not even basic e-mail etiquette; i am sure he must have been through tonnes of training on e-mail etiquette and communication skills...
but, what's the point? he does not understand that the only way to keep external customers happy is to value your internal customers. This is the BIG point that most of the corner office white ass-lickers conveniently forget.
by the time, they learn the lesson, it may be too late.
For the tens reading this, for the thousands who go through this, and for the millions who relate to this, i have just two words for this ass: "Suck it!"

An Obituary to Osho
I saw his eyes still and fixed, his mouth open… and it took me few minutes to drown the realization in. He had departed to where he came from. We wept uncontrollably.
Swati, Baby, and I came home from the vet’s clinic after he had clinically declared him dead. We came home and buried him under a Hibiscus plant in the corner of a garden in our compound.
Every morning, I watch his grave covered with Hibiscus flowers fallen over it.
Osho had first come into my arms on February 20 this year. Just 13 days before he passed away. As the clock struck midnight, at the steps of Chaturshringi Temple, the breeder had handed over to me my first pet, Osho.
Then, he was 35—odd days old. He was so happy and excited to see me. And baby was so scared; she was afraid to even hold the crate!
I still remember his tilted face, his anticipation when I warmed his feed in hot water. I still remember how he learned everything so fast… how soon he knew that Baby was afraid of him and therefore, how alert he always used to be with her around.
How he used to run with a slanting angle… and how he barked when he heard me at the door when I came in the afternoons from work to feed him!
I still remember him standing with one of his front legs up in the air while all the other three rested on the floor.
How he always slept the way I did: with his head either on my forearm or the pillow. How he used to sneeze…
In just 13 days, I had become a father: cleaning shit, wiping face after every meal, putting him to sleep, bathing him, changing newspapers, cleaning the floor after he does his duties…
And now he is no more. His pictures and his memories will keep him alive. I don’t know whether he has reborn as a dog or in any other form. I hope he has.
I hope that the Hibiscus plant above his grave never stops flowering. Let it blossom for Osho and let the flowers fall from the sky for as long as it can.
My Osho, wherever you are: R.I.P.

Truth's more than you think
That was such a brag of a mail full of corporate shit… can they send a mail saying what innovations have they given to the world? Pre-industrial revolution, great men, inventors, and thinkers gave the world directly whatever they had to offer. There were no fucking patents, no bonds, no “employees”.
As I see it, the corporate-world has killed individualistic thinking in the name of teamwork. All for the few bigger assess who earn all the profits… a few whiz kids get up on top and the remaining average workers are made to grind their assess off…
I mean, I want to know how much actual expenses are going to R&D by all corporations and how much time does it take for these innovations and inventions to come out.
Why don’t we still see an electric car? A solar powered world? Desalination plants? More windmills? I’ll tell you why. Vested interests.
Every corporate when its down or just started out desires free trade… but when it becomes a behemoth, it wants only a monopoly! Why?
Man, it all boils to profits. And GS in the mail has changed the perspective very well: all the NY employees together earn more than the CEO and the Vice CEO put together! Ha! Man, I was looking at it the other way: how much do those two asses make?
I hate unequal distribution of work. I am not a communist. I am neither a capitalist because humans were not made for working in companies. We were made to do/ make/ dream things together… the way like-minded individuals do and did.
Why don’t we see a single Leonardo da Vinci or a van Gogh or an Einstein working for any of the biggies? I bet you won’t too. Unless corporates start producing genius genes and start using them like they showed in the matrix! I am sure this will happen! “Corporate-adoption,” they will call it. In the name of this is very good for everybody, the society. They will have separate schools and specialized training et al! ready-to-use products for the CEOs who will play golf and have dinners and shit!
Hahah!
How I hate the world that corporates have made it into?
